Project Geotechnical Engineer

Pali Consulting is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to be an integral part of our close-knit team. In this role, you will be responsible for geotechnical engineering analyses and design for a variety of projects from roadways to foundations and other facilities, for seismic hazards evaluations and analyses, and for managing projects to ensure that our clients receive accurate reports and the best level of service possible. 

This position requires work at field sites around Oregon, Washington, and occasionally Hawaii, as well as at our office in West Linn. You will have the ability to work remotely at your and your manager’s discretion. Overnight travel will occasionally be required, typically no more than once or twice per month. 

You are independent and self-motivated, and thrive in a small-team environment. You enjoy working across multiple types of projects and are willing to sacrifice some structure in exchange for the ability to work without bureaucracy and red tape.

Pali Consulting was founded in 2018 by Tim Blackwood, PE, GE, CEG/LEG. Tim has 30 years of experience in natural hazards evaluation and mitigation, designing shallow and deep foundations for structures of all types, earthworks/grading design, embankments and waterfront structures, and forensics. Prior to founding Pali Consulting, Tim was president of Pacific Geotechnical, Inc, and worked in various senior engineering positions at other Pacific Northwest geotechnical firms. Pali Consulting was born out of his desire for a boutique consultancy with the flexibility to take on a wide range of interesting projects both small and large. With a full-time staff of two and contributions from several part-time staff, we also frequently work with other consultancy firms to take on larger projects.

• Complete seismic hazards evaluations and analyses including liquefaction, lateral spread, and seismic slope stability.
• Evaluate and design mitigation plans for landslides and rockfall in urban and rural settings.
• Conduct geotechnical engineering analyses and design for shallow and deep foundations, bridges and roadways, walls and      embankments, and other facilities.
• Compile and review geotechnical data and write geotechnical reports. 
• Manage tasks for multiple projects including scheduling subcontractors, coordinating field explorations, and conducting lab testing.
• Complete other specialized projects such as litigation cases, construction services, and more.

• 5+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• PE license with ability to obtain an Oregon license soon after employment. 
• Ability to work independently and on multiple projects at a time.
• Driver’s license and employment documents as required by applicable state and federal laws.
