Pali Consulting is seeking a staff geologist to join our team! This is a full-time position of approximately 40 hours per week. This position is eligible for full benefits, including health and dental insurance, paid sick leave and holidays, vacation, and a 401K program with company match on contributions, plus a profit-sharing bonus.
You are independent and self-motivated, and thrive in a small-team environment. You enjoy working across multiple types of projects and are willing to sacrifice some structure in exchange for the ability to work without bureaucracy and red tape.
Pali Consulting was founded in 2018 by Tim Blackwood, PE, GE, CEG/LEG. Tim has 30 years of experience in natural hazards evaluation and mitigation, designing shallow and deep foundations for structures of all types, earthworks/grading design, embankments and waterfront structures, and forensics. Prior to founding Pali Consulting, Tim was president of Pacific Geotechnical, Inc, and worked in various senior engineering positions at other Pacific Northwest geotechnical firms. Pali Consulting was born out of his desire for a boutique consultancy with the flexibility to take on a wide range of interesting projects both small and large. With a full-time staff of four and contributions from additional part-time staff, we also frequently work with other consultancy firms to take on larger projects.
This position will perform a wide variety of work, including site explorations, field reconnaissance and mapping, geological analyses and interpretation, geologic background review and research, report writing, laboratory testing, construction monitoring, and instrumentation installation and monitoring. This position is based out of our West Linn, Oregon, office. However, we offer a flexible work environment with a combination of in-office, remote, and field work locations. Occasional out of town travel is required in Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii, primarily, and usually for a week or less in duration.
The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in geology with a focus on engineering geology. Geologic field skills, excellent interpretive and writing skills, the ability to navigate in remote terrain, and knowledge and familiarity of GIS systems are important skills that this position will require. A GIT and other industry certifications are desirable. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree will be considered with coursework and/or experience that provides a similar skill set. Training for rope access to complete rockfall work (SPRAT I), may be required.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds, and employment documents as required by applicable state and federal laws.
If you desire a wide variety of work, enjoy working outdoors, and want to work with a small, laid back team, this is the job for you!
